Justice for All?

I like to think we, as a nation, have come a long way when it comes to social justice. I like to think that overall when someone goes in front of a judge the only thing that is seen is the crime. Every now and then though, I get smacked along side my face; like today. My good friend Chuck Barrington sent me a tale of two cases. One a rich man and the other a homeless man. When I read these, I realized we are farther from the design our founders had in mind almost 250 years ago than I thought. It would appear that money can buy a good lawyer and a short sentence, while a man down on his luck can get neither. At this moment I am ashamed. It's no wonder that it is said that it is the eye of the beholder that determines how far we have really come.
