Dreams: Part One

We've all had dreams. Many of us still do. I'm not talking about the kind of dreams we have when we sleep. I'm talking about the dreams we have when we think about our future; whether it be about who our spouse might be, college, occupation, kids or house. Let's be honest when we are young we have all sorts of dreams about what we want to do or be. Many boys want to become a professional athlete. Little girls often want to be mommies. As we get older sometimes the dreams change. Our heart's desires become altered as we find out that maybe we don't have the talent for a career in sports or want to blend parenthood with a career. In this first of a two part series on "Dreams" I want to make sure that young folks don't get hung up on what is the right Dream. And if one Dream seems to not come true, that you don't think you have failed. Sadly, sometimes because of seemingly unfulfilled Dreams we believe we have settled for second best Dreams. Nothing could be further from the truth. Watch this.

In this clip from Field of Dreams, Ray Kinsella is trying to convince Doc "midnight" Graham to come with him so he can give him a chance to bat against a Major League pitcher. You see, Graham had been called up to the Majors on the last day of the season from the minors and while on deck, the third out of the last inning was made, keeping him from having a chance to bat. From there he went on to give up baseball and go to Medical School to become a doctor. You see, though Doc Graham still had a yearning to bat in the Majors just once, he knew that as one Dream fades another takes over. Forgotten? Not hardly. Just prioritized.

Tomorrow "Moonlight" gets his chance- with a twist.
